Geekatana Review - Mulan (2020) - Once Upon a Time in Mulan

Mulan (2020) is an action drama  film produced by Walt Disney Pictures. It stars Liu Yifei in the title role, alongside Donnie YenJason Scott LeeYoson AnGong Li, and Jet Li in supporting roles. Directed by Niki Caro, with screenplay by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Lauren Hynek, and Elizabeth Martin.

The first animated Mulan movie by Disney was a guilty pleasure for me so when I knew Mulan was having a live action I was excited. Even though the trailer for this movie hadn't impress me I've decided to give this movie a look since one should never judge a movie by its trailer. There will be minor spoilers so you have been warned.

Geekatana Review - Sword Art Online 2 - Gamer Have Guns Will Shoot

Sword Art Online II, is an anime series adapted from the light novel series of the same title written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by Abec. It was produced by A-1 Pictures, and directed by Tomohiko Itō. It is divided into two parts with one part adopting volume 4 and 5 while the other is about volume 6 and 7 of the light novel. It ran for 22 episodes.

Personally speaking the first Sword Art Online has its issues but it was still a fun and entertaining series so I decided to pick this series up as well after a few months after its release. I guess I'm still partly upset about how they handled the first season. Anyways the minor spoiler warning flag up so let us dive into it.

Geekatana Review - Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.Season 1 - A SHIELD Against the Strange Things

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a drama series based on the Marvel Comics organization S.H.I.E.L.D. aired on ABC from September 24, 2013, to May 13, 2014, and consists of 22 episodes. It was produced by ABC StudiosMarvel Television, and Mutant Enemy Productions, with Jed WhedonMaurissa Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell as showrunners.

I got to admit that the trailer didn't grab me when it first aired years back but curiosity eventually got the better of me lately and decided to finally take a look. I'm not a hardcore MCU fan but I've watched my share of MCU movies and Marvel Comics here and there. This will my review of the first Season of the show. Also minor spoilers as usual.

Geekatana Review - The Boys - Discount Suicide Squad vs the Corrupt Heroes

The Boys is an American superhero web television series which is largely based on the comic book of the same name created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The series was developed by Eric Kripke for Amazon.  It currently has Season 1 and a second Season currently in the works.

I have heard of the series but it wasn't until later that I finally gotten into it thanks to a friend of mine who is also a big fan of superheroes in general. I like to point out that I know nothing about the show prior to what I've seen in the show and some bits and pieces here and there about the comic book it was based on. That will not influence how I will review the series however but I might drop out some minor spoilers here and there.

Geekatana Review - Dredd 2012 - The Dredd Version of Die Hard

Dredd is a 2012 science fiction action film directed by Pete Travis and written and produced by Alex Garland. It is based on the 2000 AD comic strip Judge Dredd and its eponymous character created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra. Not to be confused with the Judge Dredd film that came out in 1995.

Before I delve into the review I like to point out I do have basic knowledge of the comic strip Judge Dredd having read a few issues way back. I also have seen the 1995 Judge Dredd film as well. I'm not a huge Dredd fan but I do have some basic idea of the source material in some way. So it may or may not affect how I will review this film. Also minor spoilers flag is up.

Star Trek Voyager Season 2 - Friends, Enemies and Others

This will be my review of Season 2 of Star Trek Voyager. The Season 2 of Star Trek Voyager aired from August 1995 to May 1996. With the first Season being only 16 long 4 of last episode of Season 1 was moved to Season 2 with one of these moved episode being the final episode of Season 1. The second Season is nearly 2 times longer in episode count as the first season and thus has more elbow room to develop its story.

If you haven't read my review of the first Season of Star Trek Voyager you can find that here. I'd suggest you go read that first before you read this one. I might be touching some minor plot points and there will be minor spoilers on this one.

My Top 12 Underrated Anime Opening

This would be my Top 12 Underrated Anime Opening. Why Top 12? Well there's literary a ton of underrated anime out there that making a simple Top 10 feels like a disservice at one point or another. As any Underrated list goes these are anime openings that I feel needed more recognition than it deserved. For this list I'll only be doing one anime per series to narrow it down. Also this is Underrated Anime Opening and not Top 12 Most Underrated Anime which is this list here and is another list altogether.

I like to point out that these are just the underrated anime opening that I know and I'm sure a lot of you could probably add more to this one. So please don't pull a nerve if your Underrated anime didn't make the list.

Arknights - the Anime Waifu Collector Tower Defense Game

Arknights is Yostar Limited mobile game company jab at the Tower defense genre But it takes it on its own route by adding its own touch. For those unfamiliar with Yoster Limited they are the company who are responsible for game Azur Lane back in 2018. Developed by Studio Montagne and Hypergryph under the Yostar game brand, Aknight was first released back in May 2019 but was met with positive feedback that it was launch globally by January 2020.

I'm not a fan of Tower Defense game but I am a big fan of Azur Lane so I decided to finally cave in and gave Arknight a chance. Although admittedly I'm not a hardcore player of Arknights I do enjoy how they handled the whole Tower Defense game and gave it their own twist.

Geekatana Review - Final Fantasy VII - Spiky hair mercenary joins Eco Warriors

Final Fantasy VII is a role playing game developed by Square for the playstation console. It started development back in 1994 and was originally planned to be released SNES. Its the first final fantasy title to use full motion 3D graphics. It marked the return of the series creator and producer Hironobu Sakaguchi, director Yoshinori Kitase and the composer Nobuo Uematsu.

Final Fantasy VII is certainly not the first JRPG I played for the PS1 but it is definitely one of the first Final Fantasy game in the series that I actually played since I got a playstation console. This review will have nothing to do with the Remake of said game as I feel that deserve its own separate review. Also minor spoilers are up for this one just in case.

Geekatana Review: Star Trek Voyager: Season 1 - A Ship a very long way from Home

Star Trek: Voyager is an American science fiction television series created by Rick BermanMichael Piller, and Jeri Taylor. It is the fifth series in the Star Trek franchise, it served as the fourth sequel to Star Trek: The Original Series. And sadly like a lot of Star Trek series I never got to watch it in full until recently it still hold fond memories of the show. It's also the first but not the last Star Trek series that has a female as the captain.

Star Trek Voyager has seven seasons under its belt and so I've decided to do a review of each of the Season as I finish them. I like to point out that I'm no hardcore Star Trek fan and my knowledge of its lore is very basic at best so forgive me if I make a mistake or two here and then. Also minor spoiler flag is up.

Geekatana Review: Sword Art Online (Season 1) - Beta Player turn OP Hero

Sword Art online is an anime based on the light novel series written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec. It was originally wrote the series as a web novel on his website from 2002 to 2008.  The anime series produced by A-1 Pictures, known simply as Sword Art Online, aired in Japan between July and December 2012.

There's roughly 3 Seasons of this anime. Not counting the spin off series, games and movies that came after. But for this review one we will be focusing on Season 1 as its basically the one that started it all. I'm sure a lot of folks have seen this show already by the time of the writing of this review but still minor spoilers for those that didn't.
