Goddess of Victory: Nikke is a third-person sci-fi themed railgun style shooter game developed by Shift Up and is published by Level Infinite. The game was released globally for Android and iOS in 2022 and currently has a PC version available. The game is also part dating sim, character/waifu collector with some JRPG style elements attached. Nikke is also a gacha game with over thirty different female characters to collect and combined to make your Ultimate 5 girl Nikke team.
I like to point out that this review is based on experience I had with the PC version of Nikke Goddess of Victory that I am currently playing so it may differ from the reviews on the Android and iOS version. Also this is mostly a first impression review since I have only been playing this game for roughly 6 days or so.
The plot is part Terminator and part anime and and sci fi weapon wielding waifu with humanity forced to live underground while robotic creatures called Raptures has taken over the planet and is hell bent on eliminating humanity. Here humanities only hope are cyborg humanoid female weapons called Nikke who manage to fight the Raptures into a stalemate and the only ones preventing the Raptures from wiping out humanity and taking over the planet.
As gameplay theres nothing new that Nikke did that wasn’t done before but it is entertaining enough to enjoy especially if your fan of arcade rail shooter and the JRPG and waifu collecting elements the game has to offer. If you ever played Time Crisis you pretty much know what to expect here. But sicne you are only allowed to bring 5 girls in a team choosing which girl to bring usually determines whether you win an encounter or pretty much get pawned a lot. There is also a level wall making the game partly an Idle game.
The character designs and world building elements are nicely done too and fits the somewhat dystopian sci fi setting the game was going for with enough lore and character back story to keep the game interesting. Also its nice to see that despite having a 8 GB requirement the game can run at even lower settings although there are some minor lag issues specially after prolonged gameplay. The game AI also is intuitive enough to finish the early stages on its own until players gets the bearing on how to play the game and combat mechanics. Theres also guild and Raid options for multiplayer gameplay.
Being a gacha system Nikke is unbalanced as some of the best characters have abysmal chances of being attained hence often the need to Reroll your account a lot during the Tutorial which surprisingly still takes 30 minutes just to do one reroll…And yes it took me 10 rerolls and roughly half a day worth of making new game accounts to get the character I wanted. Players will eventually get all the characters if they are patient enough but your starting characters often determine of how hard of a climb you will go to get there.
With Nikke weapon type, element, skill buff and Burst system gameplay system theres a great amount of fun figuring out which characters work with each other or your preferred game style. Do you want a shotgun focused close range team or a sniper or rocket launcher team…maybe a balance of all the weapon type. The game has plenty to offer if only leveling up and each of the stages aren’t divided into Power walls. So no matter what character you have if it doesn’t have the power you will probably need to be lucky or really skilled to finish one battle to advance the plot.
Nikke Goddess of Victory is an entertaining and fun game
despite being bogged by the gacha elements it has. Theres sadly not much to do
with the game when you hit a level wall and need to wait until your character
levels enough to take said level wall. The game definitely has great potential
specially if they add and fix certain elements of the game. Still if you like
anime girl waifu wielding sci fi guns and weapons then you should probably give
this one a try. Same goes if you are a fan of rail gun arcade shooter Nikke is
probably a game you might like.
