Star Trek Voyager Season 2 - Friends, Enemies and Others

This will be my review of Season 2 of Star Trek Voyager. The Season 2 of Star Trek Voyager aired from August 1995 to May 1996. With the first Season being only 16 long 4 of last episode of Season 1 was moved to Season 2 with one of these moved episode being the final episode of Season 1. The second Season is nearly 2 times longer in episode count as the first season and thus has more elbow room to develop its story.

If you haven't read my review of the first Season of Star Trek Voyager you can find that here. I'd suggest you go read that first before you read this one. I might be touching some minor plot points and there will be minor spoilers on this one.

After the destruction of their one way ticket home crew of the Star Trek Voyager speeds to get back home but they have made both friends and enemies along the way. Some wants them dead, some wants their technology and some wants them as body parts. And sometimes your closes ally can be your worst enemy and vice versa.

As narrative goes its everything that you would expect with its share of good and bad episode. Season 2 does try to put some sort of continuity and character development with episodes like Cold Fire with a character having some sort of psychic power but seem to only use said power when the episode calls for it. I guess it's all cause Voyager has different writers doing the story.

One example is the episode Deadlock having such a significant change but seem to be ignored in the following episodes after. They killed a crews worth of characters and one of its main character is now from an alternate timeline but the Voyager crew seem to walk it off like nothing happened. They seem to cherish life and kills on in self defense...then goes off to kill Tuvik. The story is all over the place at times.

Despite this Star Trek Voyager is still a lot of fun to watch just don't take it too seriously. Its does try to pick up from the the events of Season 1 involving Seska and Chakotay moving forward with an ongoing stoyline which involved the new alien race the Kazon. Shown in a classic tale of love and betrayal which is one of the episodes that I like but sadly seemed overstayed its welcome.

As visuals goes the series is getting a lot in terms of its special effects and make up. But it's still not there yet as episode like Prototype show they sometimes drop the ball in this area a little bit still compared to the previous series Voyager is an improvement although I feel it lack in the space battle area specially for a ship with technology nearly every alien race from the Delta Quadrant wants to get their hands on.

Overall Season 2 of Star Trek Voyager is everything you would expect from the series. It does have minor improvements compared to the last Season but still not enough as it fails to capitalize on story plots and at times leaves plot holes unresolved. The series is still entertaining to watch specially when you already watched the first season as it does give closure on certain storylines from the previous season.
