Geekatana Movie Review: Yesterday

Yesterday is a movie that tries to envision a world where the Beatles never existed, or at least that's as much as I know about the film going into the theater. I was skeptical when the theater I went to was giving away free popcorn with every movie ticket purchase which by experience isn't a good sign. There's a surprisingly large audience on a weekend so at least that's a bit comforting.

I'm not a big Beatles fan but I do love a lot of their songs even if I can't remember each of the title off the top of my head. Their music is like one of those old friends you don't see much yet when you do its always a good sign. On a worst case this is going to be a guilty pleasure for me regardless. Also probably minor spoilers.

Geekatana Game Review: Chaos Legion

Chaos Legion is a hack and slash game developed and published by Capcom. It was first released about a month after Devil May Cry 2 back in 2003 with DMC seeing its debut in January and Chaos legion being released in March of that same year. With DMC 2 taking up the hype back then Chaos Legion didn't get enough hype to be its own thing.

Folks also saw Chaos Legion as Capcom's way of trying to duplicate the success of Devil May Cry and milking the concept dry. It had garnered mix reviews as well. But is the game really as bad as they say it is? So I eventually got a copy of the game recently and see what's the fuzz is really about.

Geekatana Anime Review: Full Metal Panic Fumoffu

I originally hated Full Metal Panic Fumoffu when I first saw it being aired locally back in 2003. It just feels a lot different than what Full Metal Panic. It did warm up to me eventually as I watched more episodes. This was handled by Kyoto Animation (KyoAni) unlike the first season which was done by Gonzo.

Full Metal Panic Fumoffu is the sequel that followed the original series that was released in 2002. But unlike the original series Full Metal Panic Fumoffu focuses on the comedic aspect of the novel and a lot of the comedic aspect giving it a far different tone. It's meant to be a companion series from the original.

Geekatana Game Review: Contra: Shattered Soldier

I'm a big Contra fan ever since playing the first game back on the family com many years back. Although the game kicked my butt more times than I can count it's still a game  I go back to time and again with my friends simply of how fun and frustrating it was. it's one of those rare games that you tend to both love and hate at the same time.

So when I find out that a Contra game named Contra Shattered Soldier was on the playstation 2 I knew I have to play it even I know as heck it's probably going to be hard as heck.

Geekatana Anime Review: Full Metal Panic (2002)

Full Metal Panic is a mecha military anime that sets itself apart from other mecha anime due to its focus on military story and a far more realistic approach on combat. I guess this was one of the appeal of the series for me and has gotten me hooked. As the series was pretty much akin to the Cyberbots or Front Mission games that came years before.

I was also already reading the Full Metal Panic manga before this one was turned into an anime. So already have a clear idea of what the anime was about before even going into the first episode.

Geekatana Series Review: Space Sheriff Gavan

SPACE SHERIFF GAVAN REVIEW

Written by: Allan Josef Gurimbao

If you grew up in the Philippines, chances are, you’re already familiar with Codename: Shaider. But did you know that Shaider is just the third in a trilogy? Today, we’ll take a look at the series that not only kicked off the so-called “Space Sheriff Trilogy”, but also the entire “Metal Hero” franchise in Japan. Today, I bring you, Space Sheriff Gavan(Uchuu Keiji Gavan).

First aired in Japan from 1982 to 1983, Space Sheriff Gavan tells the story of our eponymous hero (played by Kenji Ohba), who is sent by the Galactic Union Police (Ginga Renpou Keisatsu) to patrol Earth as its space sheriff. Taking on the alias Retsu Ichijoji, he, along with his partner Mimi (played by Wakiko Kano), protect the Earth from the space criminal organization Makuu, led by the monstrous Don Horror.

Geekatana Series Review: Power Rangers SPD

To be honest I haven't been keeping up with the Power Rangers franchise as much as I like and the only reason I got into Power Rangers SPD was cause of its rather catchy opening I happen to watch on youtube some years back. But between watching this, the kamen riders and anime a guy can easily get overwhelmed.

It's funny when I used to watch the first Power Rangers regularly like clockwork after school many years back when it was on tv. Maybe someday I'll be able to catch up on all things Power Rangers but for now I'll just settle on reviewing this one.

Geekatana Food Review: Aperitif

My first encounter with Aperitif is their little pop up store in Rockwell a ways back and I was immediately blown away on how good and fancy their ice cream dessert are complete with gold chocolate sprinkles topped with a big chunk of strawberry. It's one of those experience you don't easily forget. So it's a sure bet that when they opened their first store it's a near sure bet I'll give it a visit.

Located at the 4th floor of SM Aura in Taguig Aperitif offers one of the best looking dessert and gourmet gift this side of Manila. Widely known for its really fancy desserts and graze boxes which started quite a trend for the country.

Geekatana Game Review: Gungage

Gungage was one of those game that was released back in 1999 that completely went past my radar and no surprising since it was also the same a lot of great titles hit the shelves for the playstation. It also doesn't help that it was a KCET (Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo) Japanese only game that never got a Europe or English international release.

I'm a big fan of Konami fan with games like Metal Gear Solid, Suikoden 2 and Castlevania on its list of all time greats I know I have to give this one a spin or two japanese title or not. And for the most part I was not disappointed.

Geekatana Anime Review: Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995)

Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the most celebrated and well known anime since it first aired back in 1995 and has been sort of an otaku culture phenomenon since. very rare will you see a Top 10 anime of all time and not see this series on the list. It is also easily one of the most marketed anime brand in the current market with merchandise ranging from action figures, underwear and even toilets.

But is Neon Genesis Evangelion worth all the otaku hype it had garnered over the years. With the series hitting Netflicks I decided to look back on it again and look at the series and do a quick review as well. I'll be tackling the 1995 anime so the OVA, the movies won't be touched on this one except for maybe minor references.

Geekatana Movie Review: Spider-man Far from Home

With the review of Spiderman Homecoming done its time to get into the movie review of Spiderman Far from Home. We booked reservations early for this one and watched it on the first day it hit theaters throughout the Philippines. Thank goodness we did too as the theaters was packed.

This movie is slated to be the last movie of marvels Phase Four of MCU Movies so there's definitely a lot of hype and expectations hanging on to this film. Heck even the popcorn line was long and that's a first even for me.

Geekatana Movie Review: Spiderman Homecoming (2017)

I just got back from watching Spiderman Far from Home and was doing a quick check on my Blog before starting the review of the film when I suddenly realized I don't have a review of Spiderman Homecoming yet. I started this Blog back around October 2017 and Homecoming hit theaters around July so this shouldn't be a surprise.

And being somewhat of a completionist of sort I've decided to do a quick review of Homecoming before I get started on the review on Far from Home. Don't worry this won't effecting my review of the latest Spider film. So buckle up folks and I will try to be brief.
