Geekatana Movie Review: Spider-man Far from Home

With the review of Spiderman Homecoming done its time to get into the movie review of Spiderman Far from Home. We booked reservations early for this one and watched it on the first day it hit theaters throughout the Philippines. Thank goodness we did too as the theaters was packed.

This movie is slated to be the last movie of marvels Phase Four of MCU Movies so there's definitely a lot of hype and expectations hanging on to this film. Heck even the popcorn line was long and that's a first even for me.

Following at the heels of the Avengers End Game film folks try to get back into the swing of things. Some do while some do not and Peter is one of those trying to make sense of his life after the aftermath both in his superhero life and his normal life as a high school teenage.

The movie is more than two hours long and it spends every minute of it well. From the opening scenes of how life sort of move on after the Thanos snap and the introduction of Quinten Beck and these so called new threat that Spiderman is facing, namely these so called Elementals as you see in the trailers.

Just from watching the trailer you can tell that the story is much grander than Homecoming and the stakes are far more world threatening. Some of the twist are predictable and a lot of them are not. I love how this film is aware of the character and hints at it in the film in subtle and not so subtle easter eggs. Moviegoers will love how good this film got and more so if you're familiar with the comics and the lore of Spiderman and its characters.

I was scared that the trailer showed too much of the film already but Im happy to report that theres a lot more in the movie than what the trailer has shown in fact some of the scenes from the trailer aren't even on the film itself so there is plenty to look forward to in the movie.

Jake Gyllenhaal nailed the role of Mysterio and how his character plays a lot of homage to the comics but the movie does it in a way that fits so well in the grand scale of the MCU. Tom Holland once again nails the character of Spiderman, maybe even far better than how he did in Homecoming as you feel Spideys struggle and conflict throughout the film both as Spiderman and Peter Parker. The rest of the cast awkward and comedic moments plays well in balancing the seriousness and chaos in the film.

The special effects although not without its flaws is awesome. They went all out on this one far more than Homecoming did from the visuals and the cgi effects. Some folks may argue that they had too many special effects on the film from the Elemental scenes but I think everything was done just right and there's barely any dull moment. But my favorite will always be the third final act on movie as it shows spidey at his best.

The soundtrack of Far from Home is far more memorable for me than Homecoming and it just fits on the whole Spiderman feel of the film. This movie is more than two hours long I'd suggest you take your bathroom breaks early and drink light as you don't want to miss a single minute of this film. Also there are two post credit scene on this film that you don't want to miss. One is before the credits and another after the long credits so be sure to stay right to the end to see them.

Spiderman Far from Home is a fitting sequel to Spiderman Homecoming. Its grander and expands on the story of Spiderman after the events of End game telling the tale as the character moves forward into bigger things. If you're a fan of the MCU Films or Spiderman films then you definitely have to see this film.
