It's
a safe bet every otaku knows this series by now in some form or another. The
idea of a mom in an Isekai anime is rather new and has been quite the talk in
anime fans lately. So I've decided to watch it and see what all the hype is all
about. Also minor spoilers sign is in effect.
Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? is
the story of Masato
Oosuki who is annoyed by his overly doting mother, Mamako. He wants to get away
from it all and be his own thing. He and his mother eventually winds up in this
fantasy themed game. But the shadow that kept haunting Masato that of his "mom keeps stealing his
thunder" got worst where he finds out that his mother is pretty much an OP
character.
The
concept behind Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? is
rather refreshing as a mother who seem to be the main focus of an Isekai series.
Sadly the show fails in doing this in a lot of aspect of the series and dips
into the "I've seen it all before" pool of Isekai anime.
The
nasty kicker is that it goes into fan service and incest way too often just for
laughs. This is an anime about a mom in an Isekai setting yet your having them
in ecchi situation. I seriously doubt Do You Love Your Mom and Her
Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? is something you would want your own mother to watch let along
tell about. And this is where the series bombs.
There's
even a scene where all of them take a hot bath together naked. I doubt there
are real life mom out there that is ok with their kids and some random girls
take a hot bath together. If there are mothers that think this is ok then I
seriously think said mom needs help in evaluation where their morals stand
cause that is clearly not socially acceptable.
Don't
get me wrong here, Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? is
a decent anime when you take out all the fan service and the momcest (<--
yes I made that up) the show has. In fact the emotional moments and the scenes
where it shows Masato and Mamako genuine care for each other are the high
points of the series. Although I don't agree with the idea that having an abusive
moms are also ok.
The character wise the design of Do You Love Your Mom and Her
Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? is at least way better than your typical Isekai character
design. The colorful magic school outfit of the female magician Wise, the
intricate patterns in Masato's outfit. The outfit stands out enough when
compared to the long list of Isekai character designs out there already.
Sure the character are all cliche stereotype but at least
they are not ashamed to hide it. In fact one of the running gag of the series
is how much it parodies itself and other existing Isekai series. it even goes
off its way to make fun of games and other fantasy anime before it. Whether you
find the jokes funny however is a question of reference as some jokes goes way
pass your head every now and then.
The series does go into the usual "monster of the week"
routine or in Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? case the
"mommy of the week" as you seem to get thrown into a mother and her
child issue but in a fantasy setting route with clearly no real major villain
in sight as of yet. I mean even the anime Konosuba had a major villain going
for it even if it's antics are mostly comedy.
Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks? is
a decent Isekai series to watch if you can get pass the overuse of fan service
and borderline incest it has. The emotional aspect of the series does hits it
mark in most cases but still not there yet. The comedy is a hit or miss
depending on your understanding of the jokes and breaks the rules a lot more
than I think was necessary. The series has potential to be better if they
polish out a bit more.
Overall Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target
Attacks? is a nice Isekai if your really into the genre and doesn't mind the
borderline incest and fan service it has. It doesn't have anything that hasn't
been done before as far as anime or Isekai goes aside from having a mom as one
of the main protagonist of the series. It has some good emotional scenes and funny
moments but I wouldn't recommend this to everyone. Specially not to anyone's
mom.
