This
will be my review for Jurassic Park 3. For those new to my Blog Im doing a
quick review of all the Jurassic Park movies before I do a full review of
Jurassic Park the Lost World. I've already done the review for Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park 2 the Lost World which you can read by following the
link.
Jurassic
Park 3 is the third movie installment of the Jurassic franchise. It came out back
in 2001. It is the shortest Jurassic movie in the series so far clocking at
around 1 hour and a half. Sam Neill and Laura Dern both reprise their roles in
this film as they were both absent in the second Jurassic Park film, the Lost
World.
Jurassic
Park 3 was a nice welcome addition in the franchise and is a decent recap finale
of the first Jurassic Park trilogy. Although i'd probably would have love to
have Goldblum reprise his role as well for this one specially how well he did
in the Lost World Jurassic Park movie.
The
story is rather weak compared to the previous two installment of the franchise
but I like how they make an effort to connect this third movie to the first by
mentioning or acknowledging the both the Isla Sorna and the San Diego incident
respectively which was the focus of the first and second movie. This is also
the first movie where the main dinosaur bad guy isn't a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Pacing
however I feel the movie moves a bit too slow for my taste and lacks a lot of
awe and thrills the first two movies had plenty. I'm not saying this movie is
bad it just could have been better. Maybe a lot more dinosaur chases.
The
first movie introduced us to the dinosaurs and the wonders and dangers these
creatures bring, the second is about exploiting these creatures akin to animal
abuse. Jurassic Park 3 is pretty much just a rescue mission survival mission
which is pretty much what the first two movie before it was already.
The
music is not as good or memorable compared to the first two films since it
fails to capture the grandeur, adventure and danger of the Jurassic franchise. This
movie did introduced the Spinosaur which is a more dangerous dinosaur than the Tyrannosaurus
Rex since the T-Rex are more known as scavengers while Spinosaurs are hunters.
The
Spinosaur and the Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur fight was a great touch specially
since these two dinosaurs live on two different continent and existed millions
of years apart. So having them go at each other is an awesome sight on the big screen. There is no scientific data
to prove which of the two is the vicious dinosaur but in terms of size the
Spinosaur is definitely bigger.
In
conclusion the movie is enjoyable although it did have a slow start at the
beginning. Not to mention this is the first movie that doesn't involve a park
despite the Jurassic park in the movie title. Music is the weakest in a
Jurassic franchise so far for me. The third act is clearly the best part of the
film. It's a decent recap that doesn't add anything to the franchise.
