Before
I dive into my review of the Incredibles 2 I thought I'd do a quick review of
the first Incredibles movie first.
Sure The Incredibles movie came out some ten plus years ago before the MCU was a thing and
nearly about every person on the planet have heard or seen the movie already. I do feel doing a review of the previous film makes me appreciate or judge the new one better. If that's also your thing then read on.
The
Incredibles movie first hit theaters back in 2004 and to some its one of the
best Pixar movie ever made. Yes Incredibles was done before Disney bought Pixar
and to some this movie is one of the best superhero movie ever made. And I kind
of agree to both of these claims at some extent.
I
never watched this movie in theaters. The year 2004 was also the year Van
Helsing, Blade Trinity and Catwoman was released and those movie sort of turn
me off the whole superhero hype. This was Pre MCU time so Ironman wasn't a
thing yet. Pixar isn't well known for Superhero movies either.
The
Incredibles plot is about a superhero family going undercover and trying to
live normal lives cause for some reason superheroes are no longer welcome and
is considered a threat to the greater humanity. Sound familiar? Yes the plot does seem a bit dark for a Pixar film and is clearly nothing new as far as superhero story goes.
Yet
despite the dark overused plot its still a funny movie thanks to well placed comedic
scenes and great story pacing. Sure it's still a fun adventure superhero film
but its got a serious side that doesn't sugarcoat the reality of the situation
the characters are in. It also pokes fun at a lot of superhero cliche in comics and superhero movies which adds to the overall appeal of the film.
The
characters are very likable and have excellent voice acting too. Each of
them easily mirrors what a lot of folks face in real life. Like doing a job you're
not happy about, trying to cope with a new life and raising a family. Very mundane
situations everyone is familiar with to some point. The family aspect of the film does feel like your typical family...with superpowers of course.
Sure
the plot might be a mix of a lot of superhero stories we read or seen lots of
times. The execution is something out of an 80's comic book. The sound does
remind you of a James Bond movie with a lot of brass trumpets but that's a tiny
complain to what this film has managed to put together. The Incredibles can put
a lot of superhero movies to shame.
As
a whole the Incredibles is a good movie that everyone can enjoy. It's funny,
exciting and has great character and story all woven in an enjoyable movie
package. The movie glues you to your seat from beginning to end and for a 1 hour
55 minute Pixar movie that's a rare achievement.
