A Certain Scientific Railgun - Really cute girls with Esper super powers

An anime series adaptation by J.C.Staff. Based on A Certain Scientific Railgun is Japanese manga series written by Kazuma Kamachi and illustrated by Motoi Fuyukawa, The series was licensed in North America by Funimation, The series ran for about 24 episodes.

The student-filled Academy City is at the forefront of scientific advancement and home to the esper development program. The seven "Level 5" espers are the most powerful in Academy City, and ranked third among them is middle schooler Mikoto Misaka, an electricity manipulator known as "The Railgun."

Its basically A Certain Scientific Railgun better described as an anime version of the X Men. That is if X men lived in their own city and doesn’t delve into a lot of the political issues X men is known for and is a lot more kawaii and of course a lot more kid friendly. I do love the world building of railgun as it has this really advance city where folks with super powers are policed by higher level power users yet presents it in a school setting instead of the usual world ending political approach. Sure theres always prejudice issues and abuse of powers but its kept in a minimum.

All the cast in A Certain Scientific Railgun are all interesting and that helps keep things charming for the show. They have this certain dynamic to each other on how they interact making each scene both funny and entertaining. Like for one certain example we have our shows main character Misaka Mikoto, being this cute somewhat tomboy main character that contrast well with her estranged roommate/partner Kuroko Shirai who reflects herself as this sophisticated young lady persona but has a high kinky side…specially towards Misaka herself.

I like how the show balances cute and somewhat slice of life elements of the shows high school part with girls with special powers without having it in your face. The show is cute but at the same time it dives into fights worthy of a Saturday morning cartoon. And all the fights are well done from the camera angle and the special effects. You only need to watch the first episode as they stop a certain crime to know what to expect from the series both in action sequences and the series story tone. It also has one of my favorite anime openings.

The down side in A Certain Scientific Railgun is sadly the quality of the animation. There are a few instances where you feel the quality drops most of the time  in parts that doesn’t require an action scene. It might not be a big thing but you will bother you from time to time especially the deeper you get into the series. Also the show does take a lot of time on the slice of life aspect than what is necessary at time. Still minor complains on how well the show balances the girls in high school, slice or life or comedy portion.

If you like a nice comedy, slice of life show with some action via girls and individuals with powers than A Certain Magical Railgun is a show Id highly recommend you should check out this series. It has enough world building and character development yet presents it in a really easily understandable way that nearly anyone can understand. The plot does take time to develop but it is entertaining enough to keep you invested if you are into action, super powers, sci fi and comedy.
