Geekatana Movie Review: Avengers Endgame

Was lucky enough to be able to watch this movie on the first day of showing. We reserved our seats almost a week before the day of showing and we were forced to take a screening time much differently than the usual movie time we get when watching movies. A lot of hype and great expectations were hanging on this film.

The film was clocked at around three hours and is probably the longest MCU movie to date. A make or break move by the folks at Marvel for sure. This will be a spoiler free review as I know a lot of folks have yet seen Avengers End Game in theaters.

Avengers End Game tells the story of the events after the devastation that happened during Avengers Infinity War film. The heroes that are left try to make sense of their lives one way or another. Some sadly better than most. Yet when a chance to undo what Thanos has done comes to light the heroes band together one final time to risk everything to snatch victory from defeat.

If Avengers Infinity War was an emotional slug fest the follow up to it Avengers End Game is more of a hail Mary pass in a football game. A final gamble in a poker match. And much of movie explores the emotional aspect of each characters and how they cope with grief, loss, guilt and of failure. It's both heartbreaking, funny in some ways that only Marvel films can pull off.

The movie does start slow though and doesn't picks up until halfway towards the film. But by the start of the third act your fully invested into the plot of it all that it's both a thrilling and edge of the seat ride all the way. The only drawback is even for a three hour film some of plots seems disjointed and rushed and feels out of place or forced in. Still the shortcomings is not enough to derail the overall entertainment and story of the movie.

The theme of the film is nothing new and fans of sci fi fantasy films are already very familiar with. The idea was done better by others but Avengers End game does its own spin to it enough to make it uniquely its own. You will know what I mean when you see the movie yourself. I'd also suggest drinking light and taking your bathroom breaks early as you don't want to miss every single part of the movie.

Some of the plots are predictable and with the characters involved it's hard to pick favorites but this film feels more like a Captain America and Ironman movie although the other characters have their time to shine specially the female side of the Avengers kicks ash and take names. I definitely agree that we need an A Force spin off film in the future.

The film is an emotional exciting ride from beginning to finish and you will probably cry more than once in the movies three hour run as the film tugs at the heartstrings a lot. You don't need to watch the previous MCU films to enjoy the movie but it certainly adds to the enjoyment as it pokes at the previous 11 franchises of Marvels MCU 11 year movie run. No after credits scene this time though.

Overall the film is an excellent movie although not as great as Avengers Infinity War for me it is a perfect final chapter of the 11 year story arc that began with Ironman 11 years ago. I'd recommend this for anyone who is a fan of these characters and these films. I can't wait to see what story new stories marvel has in store for its fan in its next films.
