Looking Into the Shaggy Meme Phenomenon

The Shaggy Meme. When did this all started and why did it blew up this big in such a short time probably even and over passing the Sasuke choke meme in popularity. The origin is as simple as it is beautiful. So let's delve into it a bit further.

Before we go any further I like to point out that I don't own any of the photos used in the making of this article and are there for references and you can easily find them and their respective creators on the internet.

If you been on social media these past few days than you have probably encountered the Shaggy meme. A bunch of meme depicting Shaggy as this all omnipotent character that transcend logic, strength scaling in any sort. But whats the origin of these meme and why does it makes such a big impact on a Reddit, twitter or Tumblr.

It all goes back to 2011 with a Scooby Doo movie titled Scooby Doo!  Legend of the Phantasaur with a scene where Shaggy took on an entire biker gang all by himself in a local dinner while under the influence of hypnosis. Then we jump to 2017 where youtuber Midya overlays Ultra Instinct music from Dragonball Super into the scene and Ultra Instinct Shaggy is starting to take root.

Since then from 2017 up to 2018 there's been a steady trickle of edits and fan art of the over powerful Shaggy in all his glory as the idea slowly moves within the minds of internet folks in a wider scale.

When Infinity War rolled in Shaggy meme are there to take him on. Finally an opponent worthy to fight for the all powerful Shaggy. And folks have added to this in in term of meme and fanart including crossing into the naruto universe via sasuke choke meme being one of them. anime, Starwars, dragonball and even mortal kombat. Seems nothing is safe from the powerful Shaggy.

There's even a petition to include Shaggy as a DLC character in Mortal Kombat and it has reached pass 50,000 as of this post.

Even Mathew Lilliard the actor who played Shaggy in the Scooby Doo film has showed interest and support in these meme. Thus the Shaggy meme has gotten its second wind and is making rounds once again.

Even world renowned digital artist Artgerm known for his DC and Marvel variant covers has made his own art showing Shaggy in all his Ultra Instinct glory. Link to his page here.

One intrepid fan even made a custom character of Shaggy in the game Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 and it looks awesome. Shaggy meme won't be gone anytime soon but so far this puts Shaggy somewhere in the line of Chuck Norris perhaps.
