It's
nearly the end of 2018 and what a great year for geek and gamers alike with a
lot of companies publishing great games. So I've decided to recap them before
the year ends. Also games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider won't be making this
list cause of its lack of new innovation and weak story compared to the two
games that came before it. It's quite sad for me since I'm a big fan of the Tomb
Raider franchise since its PS1 days.
This
is my Top 12 Games list so its high likely a lot of other games won't be making
this list simply because. Also a lot of new games made the list simply cause of
its fun factor alone. Also I'm not going to include remakes for this so sorry
Shadow of the Colossus. With that cleared let's get on with the list.
12
Far Cry 5
Although
a bit weaker in terms of story and a so so antagonist if compared to previous Far
Cry titles this game is still beautifully made with tons to offer from
vehicles, weapons and missions long after the story missions are all done. Love
it or hate it is still a decent game.
11
Iconoclasts
Iconoclasts
is very clearly a Metroid inspired game with its beautiful 2d flat world. But
don't let the cute colorful graphics fool you Iconoclasts is a game rich with
story. The character are charming and memorable. It has excellent puzzle
designs and the boss battles is so creative that no single boss fight is the
same.
10
Celeste
A
follow up to Towerfall the game Celeste is a tight challenging platform game
akin to games like Meat Boy but Celeste has option to make the game easy. The
option to make the game from a cake into Dark Souls hard is the appeal of
Celeste. It also has great and tight gameplay controls. It is a game that noobs and hardcore players
can get into and enjoy.
9
Dead Cells
A
rogue-like gameplay with dungeon exploration aspect and intense action of Dark
souls in one. Dead Cells is a mixture of a lot of games we have seen before but
its done right that its hard not to love it. Zombies, Undead, a main character
that plays like Strider. Precise gameplay and excellent 2d platform graphics
for fans of fast pace platform genre.
8
Soul Calibur IV
What
sets Soul Calibur these days from most hack and slash fighting game is its
engaging story which is part rpg and DnD campaign. The single player content
alone is around 20 hours long. The beauty of Soul Caliber is its simple
controls and winning is as easy as mashing buttons unless you're up against a
really competent player.
7
Super Smash Brothers Ultimate
Super
Smash Brothers is an ambitious game as it not only improves existing Smash
gameplay mechanics but also brings back every smash character in existence
while still including new ones for a whopping 40+ characters to unlock. And
this is the very first time Smash that has an in depth story mode that fleshes
out the game more.
6
Dragonball FighterZ
From
cel shaded graphics, fast paced gameplay this games is a dragon ball game done
right. With over the top fight scene and an easy learning control mechanics
that new and old fans of fighting game can easily get into. Each fight be it
story or online mode feels like its ripped right out of the manga and anime.
Add that to a story mode and character done by Toriyama himself and you know you're
in good hands.
5
Forza Horizon 6
When
it comes to a racing game like Forza your almost always guaranteed well
rendered cars, great sound designs and superb controls from high end racing
cars to old school racing classics. Open mini map and a variety of challenges
for single and online multiplayer. The icing on the cake for Forza Horizon 6
the changing seasons which opens season specific races.
4
Assassins Creed Odyssey
With
an open world to explore the game is a spectacle onto itself with graphics
polished to near perfection. This game mixes all the best of what Assassins
Creed fun from fighting, ship battles and epic boss fights. With so much to do
this game can sometimes feel overwhelming. With so much to do players will
likely be playing this long after the main story missions are done.
3
Monster Hunter World
Usually
a console exclusive Monster Hunter World makes the game more accessible to
players than ever before. With an open world and now easier gameplay veterans
and noobs will now enjoy the game in all its grandeur. With monsters in a rich
living world each hunt promise to be an epic boss fight both single player and
online.
2
Marvel's Spider man
It's
been a long time since we got a really decent Spider-man game but Marvel's
Spider-man that Spider-man game is back and in good form. Taking and improving
game mechanics from previous Spider-man games the new game promises an open
world, fluid gameplay, easter eggs, a ton of unique spider outfits to unlock.
It has great intense action and a story worthy of a Spider-man comics.
1
God of War 4
A
lot of folks thought God of War tale was over with the third God of War game but
this latest installment of the franchise proved there's still a lot more story
to tell. A new gameplay mechanics, impressive graphics and a whole new mythos
and world to explore. The story is so awesome that those that played it no
doubt wanted more.
