Me
and my sister went to see Christopher Robin in theaters a few days after
opening day. I have very little to no knowledge of Christopher Robin and Winnie
the Pooh aside from Pooh being this yellow bear animal stuff toy that for some
reason can eat honey and Christopher Robin being this kid he hangs out with.
Thankfully I did a little bit of research on the matter before delving into
this review so I can judge the movie fairly in this regard.
Christopher
Robin plot isn't really new in fact it's pretty much been done before. Its a
family movie and about learning the values of life and keeping into focus
what's important. The movie does deliver this in its own unique way that is
heartwarming and funny. If you are a fan of Pooh and Christopher then certain
scenes will have a nostalgic appeal to you.
It's
not groundbreaking as kids or family movies goes but I'll give it props for
sticking to the source material. Which is both a good thing and bad. Good cause
it really does feel like a Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh movie. Bad
since it doesn't have much new to offer due to this as well. Also this is
probably just me but certain scenes are a bit too dark for my taste.
The
voice acting and the cinematography of this film is impressive. The way a lot
of the scenes are shot are done beautifully making Hundred Acre Wood come alive
on the big screen. Pooh and the folks of Hundred Acre Wood sounds as they were
compared to their cartoon versions. Eeyore steals this one as much of his dialogue
was both funny and ironic as being this depressing character. I laughed a
lot at the way he delivers his lines. Also I love how Pooh dialogue in this
film.
The
music was good although not memorable but enough show the intensity and emotion
in certain scenes. This movie is both funny and will pull at your heartstrings
on certain scenes. It tackles about responsibility, family, friendship and
finding happiness in life.
If
you're looking for an action flick or something with a big baddie you won't
find any here as this is probably one of the most kid friendly movie I've seen
this year. It does dips a bit dark a few times but not too much.
If
you're looking for something new or something groundbreaking than Christopher
Robin might not be for you as this film pretty much takes the old storytelling
formula of the series and just modernize it visually. If you're true fans of the Pooh however then you will find something enjoyable in this.
