ReBoot the Guardian Code Trailer Reaction

The trailer for the ReBoot the Guardian Code has recently dropped on youtube and being a fan of the original Reboot cartoons I thought Id break it down and see how it holds up compared to the original ReBoot show.

ReBoot the Guardian Code is a mix of live action and animation about the adventures of four teenagers who become the Next-Generation Guardians of Cyberspace with the help of an artificially intelligent bio-constructed teenage girl. Its still unclear if this connects to the original Reboot show or not but Im guessing they are making their own ReBoot version out of the original cartoon that aired back in the 90's. This new show is a Netflix Original Series set to debut worldwide on March 30th.

For those not familiar with the ReBoot its a cartoon that aired in the 90's. Its about entities living inside someones computer sort of a living program in humanoid digital form. They live in a city called the Mainframe as its under attack by a virus entities known as Megabyte and Hexadecimal who wants to infect or corrupt it. Since this is set inside a fantasy world inside a computer theres also the mysterious owner of the computer known to their world as the User who inserts games via some purple cube and those trapped into these cubes will have to fight the User in order to get out. The series had at least two seasons worth of episodes.

Here's the cartoon opening of the original show just to give you an idea on what it was.

With that pretty much explained lets dive into the new Reboot trailer. Strap in this is going to be quite the ride.

The trailer opens up with some mysterious hooded guy and from his monologue you can tell he is the main bad guy of the show.

We then switch to some girl, some typical teenager, your typical nerd and some athletic big guy. Pretty much the cliche line up of nearly every sentai and anime team since sentai and anime team was a thing. Teenagers in high school? Yeah this pretty much screams Power Rangers at this point.

Then for some odd reason they wind up in this sort of secret facility with high tech looking stuff. Its not enough they are probably trespassing or lost but they end up touching stuff pretty much the thing they told you not to do in situations like this.

And we get to see this some sort of gateway teleporter thingie with the logo of the original Reboot cartoon which pretty much hints that this is probably a reboot of some sort of Reboot.

For some odd reason these four unlikely high school kids end up getting teleported into the computer. Again doing what they arent supposed to be doing. For all they know that thing could scramble their molecules like in the movie the Fly. But hey its a trailer so Im sure they read the manual or something that wasnt shown in the trailer. At least I hope so.

And then we see them in their computer version. Not sure if they choose those looks but they look like your typical hero group complete with a big hulking armor guy, a color coded suits. We also see their computer AI guide.

The guide turns out to be some AI robot in the real world. The funny thing is as awkward as she stand and sound the teacher and student doesnt seem to suspect a thing. That robot in power rangers is bad but at least it doesnt show up in their classes.

The story isn't something we haven't seen done before but even I got to admit the new Guardian suits are nice. It feels like the costumes Dot Matrix and Bob from the original Reboot cartoon would wear but now has more armor and personality to them despite being color coded. Each has their own design rather than having the same outfit with color swapped pallets.

And we also get to see Megabyte again. He was the main villain bad guy in the original series its nice of him being brought to this one. It adds more to the nostalgia feel for fans of the original cartoon. Kind of wished they made some better improvement on his looks. he looked better than the 90's version but his redesign seems a bit lacking while the new heroes suit looks great but Megabytes look still feels like something that was rendered back in the 90's.

Nice to see Mainframe being this fictional computer City still in constant threat from being invaded. It even has its own defense helicopters. Although it does feel like a TV version of Big Hero 6.

I just hope they add more twist to this as one of the fun things about Reboot is the computer games inspired adventures they get to go through on each episode. The original cartoon has a lot of pop culture references with episodes inspired by the X Files or Mortal Kombat.

Judging by the trailer the shows characters looks bland and uninspired. The original Reboot cartoon has some really memorable characters thanks to the awesome voice acting. Not to mention the quirky one liners Bob makes that makes him charming as a certain Han Solo.

Im still excited for this series and I hope the characters and story picks up than what we are shown in the trailer. I like how they incorporated live action with the cgi computer aspect of the show although there is still room for improvements. So until then we can only hope. Reboot!
