I just had the chance to watch the movie last Wednesday with my sister at Uptown Mall. We were excited to see the film on its first day of showing here in the Philippines.

Thor Ragnarok is an entertaining movie from beginning to end and is probably the least darkest of all the Thor films. I would easily put this in my most favorite Thor movie thus far. Directed by Taika Waititi, the movie is both funny and entertaining without losing its seriousness when the scene calls for it. This is not just your typical good guy-bad guy movie as there are some serious character development in Chris Hemsworth's role as he goes from the compulsive battle loving thunder god to a savior of his people.

The movie's battle scenes are all greatly executed save for the one with Cate Blanchett's character Hela fighting off the Asgardian. It has way too many jumps and spins that most of the time you need a retake or wish you had a pause button just to see what's going on. Still that is too little a complain considering how well Hela's character is portrayed in the film. Finally a Marvel villain worthy of being an antagonist since Loki himself.

Led Zeppelin's Immigrant song blends so flawlessly with the fight scene that you could say it's a match made in Asgard heaven. Can't believe the song was released way back in the 70's.
I've been a fan of Thor since the 80's cartoons and watching a lot of callback characters come to life on the big screen is pure nostalgia trip for me. From the Valkyrie, to Surtur, to the Executioner.

They changed a lot of stuff compared to the comics and given the movie a brighter tone that one could say it follows the Guardians of the Galaxy style. Brighter colors and a lot of comedy thrown in here and there. Hulk's and Thor's outfits are clearly a reference to World War Hulk and Unworthy Thor respectively. So we get a World War Hulk?

Thor Ragnarok manages to blend a story of the coming of age of Thor and the war of Asgard with Ragnarok with enough comedy to make the movie as enjoyable without making it too dark. Clearly a feat that the franchise needed since the last Thor movie. With the movie clocking in past 2 hours this is one of those rare movies you wished there were more by the end of it. Clearly something you'd want to watch again and again just for the fight scenes or something you'd want to get in DVD once it's released.

Be sure to watch out for two post credit scenes at the end. One of the two being a must see if you've been following Marvel's wave of movies.
So in verdict this is a must see movie for those fans of Thor and Marvel movies alike. Definitely one of the best Thor movies out there to date and one of the best Thor side movies needed. A fun, adventurous, action-filled popcorn movie with enough character development and plot to give even none Thor fans one heck of a ride.
