Genshin Impact - The tale of the Traveler and the Emergency Food

Genshin Impact is a role playing action game developed and published by miHoYo. It was released for AndroidiOSPlayStation 4, and Windows in 2020, on PlayStation 5 in 2021, and is set for release on Nintendo Switch. The game features an anime style open world environment and an action-based battle system sing elemental magic and character-switching.

Genshin Impact is free to play with a gacha system and is expanded regularly. I have only played this game recently so I am probably a little late to get into this review. I’ll try not to spoil anything on this review for thoise  who haven’t played it yet while trying to be as in depth into the review as possible. Still minor spoilers just in case.

The story you play either Lumine or Aether depending on your preference as he/she traverse the world of Teyvet in search for his/her brother/sister when the two got separated during the beginning prologue of the game. This world consist of seven Nations each govern by their respective elemental Archon/god. The story plays out like an anime series with the payer getting involved with minor plot and or side quest as the story progresses.

Gameplay wise yes it borrows a lot from other games like Breath of the Wild, God of War and even Ace Combat in some of its gameplay but does enough of its own thing that makes it its own thing. The game as an Adventure Rank (AR) system where you cannot go into the next area until you met the desired AR through quest and main story and side plots where you meet and interact with the other characters. These characters you can also get through the gacha system. And since each character has his/her own fighting style and magic (Vision) so players experience varies on the character you have.

The characters are anime style with varied elemental and sword attacks although some of them do share similar fighting style like the great sword wielding characters having a spinning Beyblade-ish. The character design reflect their respective background with a Chinese or samurai looking outfit for the Liyue Chinese inspired country and armored robin hood like characters from the windy city of Monstad which looks European inspired. Each city its own flavor both in character and environment. Monstadt being mostly valleys and meadows while Liyue having a fisherman city with mostly mountain rangers and rivers.

The game does rely on the players knowing how Vision/elements work in the game to advance further in the game. Patience in learning how it works will make the difference of beating an enemy or trying again. The game is mostly solo play so theres no issue of other players steal killing your experience or getting attacked by higher level players. That being said there is an option of a Co Op option for tackling challenges and exploration. In fact there is Achievements for playing Co Op from time to time. Also the game boast a multi platform format so Android players can play with game console players and so on.

The graphics is a little bit on the heavy side and I have to tone down a lot of the visual effects and what not just so I can run it on my computer. And even then it still lags for me on certain fights from time to time. Not smooth but still tolerable enough. Still compared to other open world theme games genshin is surprisingly more graphics hardware friendly as it loads certain parts of the map during gameplay.

From doing the main story quest, exploration, doing daily side quest, fishing, hunting for hidden treasures or tackling dungeons and challenges. Theres plenty to do on the game that will keep players going that there is a very high risk of burning out on the game by doing all of it if one is not careful. And with new characters and expansions coming nearly every few months players will be no end of it any time soon. Thankfully this game doesn’t have a PVP yet since longtime players will no doubt steam role new players in an instant.

The game isn’t perfect though as aside from what I mention is it somewhat high demand for a graphics hardware the side quest the game seem to cut corners on the side quest and cut scenes as I have seen folks talking without their mouths even moving. It doesn’t take away from the experience of the game but it is there. The game does require players to be really patient with the game as side quest and leveling up does take quite a while to get good. The game is not for everyone that’s for sure but if you ever get a chance to play it just give it a swing who knows you the game might be to your liking.
