Peter Grill and the Philosophers Time - the tale of Peter Grill and his Peter Sauce

Based on a Japanese fantasy manga series by Daisuke Hiyama, Peter Grill and the Philiosophers Time is an anime television series adaptation by Wolfsbane. Its directed by Tatsumi, with Nora Mōri writing the scripts and Rui Ishige designing the characters.

Peter Grill after being crowned the strongest man in the world promised to marry Luvelia Sanctus and remain pure for her. However, the ogre sisters Mimi and Lisa Alpacas want his seed in order to give birth to strong offspring. In fact a lot of the other girls from other races sets their sight on Peter with the same goal making his life rather complicated.

What makes Peter Grill and the Philosophers Time different from your typical harem is that it actually goes there. While most MC in harem anime tend to ignore the female advances in their series peter actually does it…most of the time forced into it. Sure in all freaking honesty it probably sounds gross on paper but the show makes it hilarious enough that you actually laugh at the irony of it. The fun part is Peter is a pure guy and tries his best not to fall into the temptation of these beautiful girls…no doubt failing a lot.

The plot falls into romcom with a lot of fan service and ecchi but is still entertaining if your into these kind of genre. Also on a more lighter note I give mad props to the anime for actually having enough words in its dictionary to describe a male sexual organs. The aniem knows what it is and just runs with it. Don’t expect some big plot of some evil being or organization hell bent world domination since theres nothing here outside of monsters causing girls to lose their clothes. The only world domination happening here is the girls trying to dominate Peters Peter. Hilarious? Yes. Actual plot?...not so much.

The character design of the series is pretty good. That is if that pretty good falls into well designed half ogre, half elf or any fantasy girl you can think of then yes. Theres the disgruntled father in law figure that would love nothing more to see Peter exile and a mention of brainwashing that feels doesn’t went anywhere. The series does boast one of the best looking female Goblin design ever put into anime. Sure said Goblin has a dangerous yandere side but her backstory sort of hinted that already.

Theres not much action on this outside of Peters badroom. And the little action it has are too short to be memorable. Also the plot just jumps and speedruns into things that leaves everything for interpretation. You just know some father hates peter without any explanation what so over outside of he just does. In fact the first episode is like the final battle of an anime and the show is just a very lengthy prologue. Also the point that this has a Season 2 is scary.

If you take the series for what it is it can be a rather funny and entertaining series. This series knows what it is and just runs with it full speed. While other does what very few harem based anime does and does it in a rather hilarious way. It is definitely not going to win any awards and is definitely not for kids. The show is basically in its core chock full of fan service. If you like some crazy romcom that isn’t scared to go the extra mile in terms of ecchi comedy then you might probably give this one a try at least once.
