I went to
see this with my mom as she is a big fan of Sarah Geronimo. Way I see it is
that I get to treat my mom to a movie she love and I get to do this review too,
two birds with one stone as they say. So Yey!
Jasmine
takes her newfound doggy friend Happy on a long journey to see her diseased
grandmother in Baguio in the hopes that this dog will help her recover from her
sickness. The two walk an incredible distance facing all kinds of challenges
and run into strangers. Jasmine being somewhat special helps them in her
journey as they in turn teaches her lessons about life. her grandmother was ill once and a dog helped
her recover...maybe happy can help her too.
Sure
the plot may draws similarities with a dogs journey to find her master but this
is pretty much jasmines story as it was about her doggy friend. In fact happy
is pretty much just the icing on the cake on this one as this focuses more on
the struggles of the character Jasmine herself. The way she copes to strangers
and the outside world far from the sheltered confines of her quiet life.
As a
character jasmine is not a perfect character as she has trouble dealing with
people and is somewhat of a spoiled person and Sarah Jeronimo encapsulates this
personality perfectly from her tactlessness and somewhat awkward way of dealing
with people. The overly trustful nature she has. This just shows how greatly
Sarah Geronimo has improved as an actress. The third act is where Sarah geronimo shines the most for me as it shoes
that she can be more than just a pretty face with a singing voice.
If you
wanted a romance story and the likes you will find little to none in this
movie. This is a tale of self discovery and finding strength when faced with
the hardships of life. A tale of family finding strength on each other and finding
kindness even in total strangers. This films can make you laugh and tuck at
your heartstring at the same time without going over the top on everything. I
like to give Viva films a hats off for giving the film a more realistic ending
than most of the typical pinoy films of this caliber out there.
The
film is far from perfect though. The plot is not definitely nothing new that hasn't
been tried in some way before but Sarah Geronimo and the dog Milo (Happy in the
film) gave it their own spin. Sarah Geronimo portraying Jasmine definitely
shows how versatile an actress Sarah can be and you definitely feel her
struggles. Being a dog lover and owner I can definitely relate to a lot of the
scenes myself. Jasmines journey is something everyone faces in life both
figuratively and literary. That journey in life.
The
movie also seems to be a bit too short on the journey aspect of the story.
Would have been nice if she met a few more people along her journey but that's
just me. I guess that would be something fitting for a teleserye of sorts than
a movie. Also some of the jokes didn't
land for me. Still these are just me nit picking on minor things in the end. The
surprise guest are also a nice treat.
Also if
you are planning to watch this film in Glorietta 1 I'd suggest passing by WingZone
restaurant at the Top of the GLO since they are giving away two or more free
movie tickets when you avail of their combo meals.
Overall Unforgettable is a
great movie that showcases how much Sarah Geronimo has improved in her acting
skills. Hats off to Viva for a lovely and inspiring movie. If you are tired of
the usual romcom of romantic films or want something simple yet inspirational then
you should definitely give this one a go. If you are a fan of Sarah Geronimo then
you will definitely find something to love in this movie.
