Although
Toy Story was released back in November 1995 it wasn't until 1996 of May did it
saw released in the Philippines. With the fourth installment of the Toy Story
franchise hitting theaters in a few days I've decided to freshen up on how it
all started by reviewing every Toy Story movie that was ever released in
theaters.
Created
by Pixar and released by Walt Disney Toy Story was one of those animated
features that are aimed towards kids and young adults but has enough on the
nose content that adults and parents alike can relate to as well. Something
both Pixar and Disney seem to have slowly mastered.
Toy
Story is the story of a cowboy toy named Woody who has to cope with jealously
as a new spaceman action figure named Buzz overcomes him as top favorite toy in
a boys toy room. Adventure, comedy and a mishaps happens as the two try to
settle their issues and differences.
The
plot of Toy Story is quite impressive and a bit too real sometimes as Woody's
feeling of jealousy and mistrust towards a newcomer is something a lot of
people experience than folks can imagine and seeing it played out in a fun and
hilarious manner calls for excellent writing. The pacing was just right and almost
all the jokes landed for the most part.
Unlike
a lot of Disney's animated movies Toy Story isn't based on any existing story
so they had to work everything from the ground up from the dialogue to how each
of the character look and the ups and downs of the story which is clearly no
easy feat. This is one of those films that put Pixar Animation Studio on the
map as animated movies go and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Each
of the characters fit their character voice actors and actresses. The dialogue
and the interaction of each of the characters is clever and the plot twist is
satisfying as each of the toy characters have their own little quirks in term
of tone and movement that is uniquely their own. You can feel as though Tom
hanks and the rest are made to voice these characters from the start.
I
specially love how they play out the humor out of each of the toys and who knew
that the idea of toys coming to life would be this good. The music is well done
as well as they blend well with each scene although I could probably add or
remove one music here and there but nothing too major.
The
movie isn't perfect as some scenes could have been shorter while some scenes I
feel needs to be cut short a bit. I felt some of the characters needed more
time to shine and also some of the jokes felt forced and isn't something that
hasn't been done before. But such things are minor complaints for how well
rounded the movie was.
Toy Story is one of those movies that surprises you in all the good ways. If
you haven't seen this movie yet I'd suggest you go see it. You will definitely
find something to love in this one as it speaks to the kid in everyone of us.
This is one of those rare animated movies that folks of all ages would enjoy just
for the story, voice acting alone. A high recommendation to everyone.
