Small Foot Movie Review

Judging by the trailers Small Foot looks and feels so much like your typical animated movies. A civilization of monsters or in this case Yeti that hides from the rest of the human world. It does feels a lot like Hotel Transylvania all over again and the ice covered setting feels a lot like Ice Age as well. As trailers go this movie is off to a rough start.

But as true moviegoers often phrase it "Never judge a movie by its trailers'" So despite the sudden rain and nearly cancelling our reserved seats we decided to judge the movie as a whole and I'm so glad to say that this movie is its own thing and more.

Small Foot is a movie based on Yeti Tracks by Sergio Pablos. It was co-written and directed by Karey Kirkpatrick, It stars the voices of Channing TatumJames CordenZendayaCommonLeBron JamesGina RodriguezDanny DeVito.

The story is about Migo who is a Yeti who encounters a human for the first time and since there has been any human contact between the humans and the Yeti both believe each of their species believe each one is a myth.

I wasn't really expecting much from Small Foot aside from the fun adventure feel you get when watching these type of movies since its a movie for kids. But it delivered more than I was expecting. Sure the kids laugh at the theaters from beginning to end but there are certain story themes in this movie that I think are more for teenager or adult like a hint of xenophobia or some sort of religious aspect of belief and faith.

You will know what I mean if you have seen the movie. This is one of few kids movie with such a complex and deep theme yet still remained entertaining and fun movie. Sure it won't be the next Coco or Ice Age but it's it own thing on its own and this is where I think it shines the best.

The movie has a lot of story themes going for it that it could probably make two or three movies but they jam it all into a one and a half hour film so there's clearly no down time in the story which I feel is a double edge sword as personally I would have wanted certain scenes to be longer but that's a personal preference than an actual complain.

This is an animated musical so expect a lot of songs in this film. The songs are catchy but sadly not that memorable unlike what they did with the LEGO Movie but I think its cause of week advertising or due to a lot of folks seem to compare this to Ice Age and other animated movies so much.

Channing Tatum voicing the character the Yeti named Migo is one of the best part of the film. I'm surprised Channing can pull it off well considering Im more familiar with his none animated movie role. They handle the character development was handled nicely although this film could use more conflict.

As a whole the movie has something to offer for everyone be it kids or older. Sadly due to poor advertising this movie isn't going to win any awards which is a shame since this is one of those rare animated movies where the story has actual layers upon layers of content. One could watch this film and have more than a few heart warming lessons from this.

This movie teaches a lot of stuff about life and our society in more ways than one. I'd happy recommend this one to anyone who wants a little more in their animated films. The trailer hardly give this movie the justice it deserves. Sure it's not the next Coco but I think it's already halfway there.
