POP HUB: Comic Splash X Fandom Fest Vol. 1

Pop HUB: Comics Splash X Fandom Fiesta Volume 1 was held last September 15 to 16 at SMX Convention Center Manila Mall of Asia Philippines.

It was launched in partnership by Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) and The Best of Anime (BOA) organizer, Primetrade Asia, Incorporated.

Pop Hub is one of the best events this month for me as it has the right mixture of pop culture stuff at a very affordable price. The games, artist booths and prizes alone is well worth beyond the price of admission.

Pop Hub has comic book creators, artists, writers, directors, editors, animators, illustrators, dealers, collectors, publishers, members of the academe, comic and pop culture fans that its hard to name them all.

Folks like Pol Medina, Kevin Talibao among other great artist and illustrators are there. Im fans of both of them and have been following them for quite some time and seeing there booths at the event is always a treat.

A fellow cosplayer and friend of mine Prince De Guzman who is now a well known cosplay special effects artist also had a book there so me and some of the other guys decided to go there in costume to show our support.

He gave a quick tutorial on how to do special effects make up which was really impressive to see. You can check out Prince De Guzman Facebook and Youtube channel to find out more.

There were fun mini games for event goers as well from a fun archery game and a cat car race which are all Barangay 143 theme inspired where participants can win Barangay143 merchandise. Everyone who participated wins. Easy.

Barangay 143 is an upcoming anime inspired by local Philippine street basketball set on the Philippines done by collaboration from japan, Singapore and Philippines. I'm really excited for this new anime series and I hope its a start for more Philippine based anime in the future.

Here's a teaser trailer of Barangay143.

The booth shops varies from shirts, to board and card games, to comic book and stickers and other novelty items and the likes. Even a DIY Papercraft booth for making beautiful 3d paper craft figures.

They got a lot of awesome displays as well from Starwars to Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and Star Trek. Artist booths like Meme Squad, Fan N’ Art Buddies, Mher Sayan Design Studio, MagedonartTradigiko, Graphic Geeks, , Wiggly Line as well as Jamilton

Groups from different pop culture fandom from the 501st legion, Hogwarts Philippines which is a harry Potter fan group, Westeros Philippines and many others were also there for fans of their respective series. I even saw the Harry Potter group giving wand casting tutorials to some of the attendees. Something that wasn't shown in the Harry Potter movies but was a big thing in the Harry Potter books.

They got a lot of awesome displays as well from Starwars to Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and Star Trek. Aside from me and our horror theme cosplay group some cosplayers from different fandoms are there as well.

Overall an enjoyable event for me although the booths need more variety like maybe some Transformers and Gundam but there is always the next time and Ill definitely look forward to the next one if they plan to make another such event.
