Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation movie review

Hotel Transylvania 3 Summer Vacation is the third installment of the Hotel Transylvania series under Sony. Me and my sister happened to watched this film on opening day in 4D. I've already watched and reviewed the first two Hotel Transylvania movies and I'm curious on where they will take this movie next.

Rest assured though that I've stayed away from spoilers for this one. So with that being cleared and out of the way let's get on with the review.

Hotel Transylvania 3 Summer Vacation Philippine movie release date was pushed back due to Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino so you can say I'm rather late in reviewing this compared to other movie reviewers outside the Philippines.

Hotel Transylvania 3 Summer Vacation centers around Dracula who after years of managing the Hotel seems a little lonely so his daughter decides to take him and the rest of the monster family on a vacation for some fun and relaxation. Trouble follows him though in the form of an old rival from his past.

Story wise the plot of Hotel Transylvania 3 Summer Vacation is pretty thin and is pretty much predictable just like the first two Hotel Transylvania movies that came before it. Yet like much like the previous two films this movie is still as fun and entertaining as its predecessors thanks to well paced narrative and voice acting.

The way Hotel Transylvania jokes work vary on ones knowledge of existing monster mythos and pop culture. Hotel Transylvania 3 Summer Vacation is no different. Like that little joke on the airplane scene with those gremlin they showed in one of the trailer which you won't get unless you've seen the Gremlin movie or that certain Twilight Zone episode.

This is a family movie so don't expect anything groundbreaking outside of maybe just a fun family entertaining film for both kids and adults. It's not going to win best animated movie of the year but its an enjoyable and fun movie to watch for entertainment and laughs.

Although I still like the very first Hotel Transylvania movie this third movie is a decent addition. Most of the jokes landed for me and I heard the kids and adults in the theater laughing as well. Some of the scenes I do feel could have been longer specially that flashback sequence at the beginning of the movie.

There's also a bunch of easter eggs in this film both obvious and faint that you will notice if you watched your fair share of movies. An example of this is like how the cruise ship they are on looked like that ship from the movie Titanic, or a scene that reminded me of the movie Tomb Raider or Indiana Jones. It's nice little stuff like this that adds more value to this film for me.

My only drawback for me for this film is that they could have probably given some of the characters in the film more screen time like Bob the dog and the rest of the monsters but I guess the movie is already too long for an animated film so they have to cut corners. And like I said the plot is predictable. This movie also dishes out joke after jokes that some folks might have a hard time catching all of it.

Hotel Transylvania 3 Summer Vacation is a fun and entertaining family movie for both kids and adults alike. Despite showing nothing new and a predictable plot this film was a fun and enjoyable film just for the laughs. Both kids and adults will find something they will like here. If you have watched the first two films and you liked them then you will find this one to your liking as well.
