My Top 12 Most Underrated Anime

Theres literary a lot of anime that comes out every year and sadly a lot of them comes unnoticed due to a lot of the folks obsessed or are into certain anime series that is the main trend for the anime community at that time. Dont get me wrong theres nothing wrong with liking an anime series with a ninja that runs around in an range jacket or an alien monkey that changes hair color and hair style with each power level, I just feels some of the lesser known anime deserve some recognition too.

There is basically a lot of anime that really went under the radar every year due to it being new, lack advertisement and isnt about a death god with orange hair or some skinny straw hat person with the ability to stretch out part of his body like Dhalsim from Street Fighter. So I made a list of some of these underrated anime that I think deserved more attention than they are originally given. This isnt a complete list as I know theres a lot more of these shows than I can write down but I will list at least 12 right off my head for this one. So these are my Top 12 most underrated anime.

Elfen Lied

Its a story of a girl "Diclonius" which is a mutant human that is only distinguishable from other humans by their two horns on their head and they have the ability to use "vectors" to mostly kill people. Short to say this anime has graphic violence...A LOT of graphic violence. The story is where this anime shines most though as it tackles subjects like prejudice, revenge, abuse, jealousy, social alienation, identity, regret and the value of humanity

Wolf's Rain

In a post apocalyptic world wolves said to be extinct for two hundred years now guised as humans hide themselves within the dying world. These wolves want to seek paradise, a mythical place where they could be safe from humans. Sadly humans also seek this paradise for their own. This anime has great character and an awesome soundtrack.

Tears to Tiara

As the Holy Empires conquest reaches the island of Erin the Gael tribe fights back with the help a mysterious grey haired man named Arawn. A fantasy series with lovable characters and compelling story about the price of war, the test of strength, friendship and honor. This series is actually based on the game with the same title.

Samurai Champloo

Two unlikely samurai are captured and set to be executed. However, they are rescued by Fuu, a quirky girl who hires the duo as her bodyguards. The three go out on adventure to find a certain man. Sword fighting, comedy and deep story abound in this little gem of an anime that deserve more praise than it got.

Heroic Age

During the passing of time, humanity suffers at the hands of the more dominant races and is now facing extinction. The Princess of the humans sets out to search for the powerful being who might be able to save humankind. It mixes sci fi, legend and magical elements in a nice package worthy of a Hollywood or live action tv series.

Zetsuen no Tempest

Mahiro sister dies and Mahiro has enlisted the help of a witch named Hakaze Kusaribe to find Aika's killer and his friend Yoshino is dragged into it as the world slowly dies and the two find themselves the only ones who can help save it. Also known as Blast of Tempest, this anime is a hidden gem with a mixture of comedy, tragedy, action and a love story all rolled into one. Everyone should watch this series at least once.

Solty Rei

In a futuristic disaster ridden city, Solty, an android who has lost her memory encounters the bounty hunter Roy and he adopts her as his daughter. The story is a sci fi drama so dont expect much action on this one but more on character development and great storytelling. It does have some dash of comedy to even things out. But its story is its best point.

BACCANO!

Baccano! tells the tale of several events that seem unrelated, but are part of a much bigger story. Its bloody and isnt afraid to show it but underneath it all are interesting characters and a decent storyline not to mention enough action to rival your blockbuster action Hollywood flick and more.

Gunslinger Girls

A girl after witnessing the murder  of her family is turned into a cyborg killing machine. The art style meets the theme and one easily finds oneself attached to the characters in the series. It is both mature and childish at the same time. This is at its core a character driven series with a dash of action.

Towards the Terra

The story takes place a few thousand years in the future, where humanity eventually left Earth and has colonized other planets, and is more or less controlled by supercomputers. Its also known as Terra E in Japan. This is one of those rare anime where minor character and their development played integral part in the overall tale. The story gets better and better with each episode.

BTOOOM!

Top players of the combat game Btooom!.suddenly found themselves trapped in an island where the combat game is now real and that their lives are in danger. Its a well written series with easter eggs and historical references sprinkled about. Its a good series with a lot of strategy. Its like Mirai Nikki crossed with Sword Art Online in the island LOST. And yes its pretty bloody.

Samurai 7

Every year during the harvest a group of bandits come and steal away almost all of the rice from the village of Kanna. So they decided to hire seven samurai to fight for them. Its based on the tale of the Seven Samurai but with a more sci fi feel to it with giant mechs and ships. It has great character, deep story and is a good modern take on the classic story. A must watch.
